Language codes
Languages codes are used in XLIFF projects and in TMX files. Normally you don't have to worry about language codes, since CafeTran handles them for you. You choose your source and target language when you create a native CafeTran project. In cases where you translate third-party XLIFF files, your client will have assigned source and target language.
Anyway, here is a list of nearly all language codes:
- ISO 639:1988 — Code for the representation of names of languages
- ISO 3166:1993 — Code for the representation of names of countries
TMX language codes consist of a language code followed by a country code.
E.g., the Dutch spoken in the Netherlands is written as ‘nl-NL’, whereas the Dutch spoken in Belgium is written as ‘nl-BE’. Note that the country code is always written in CAPS.
