How can I make memoQ automatically type curly (‘…’, “…”) apostrophes and quotes

From michaelbeijer.co.uk

Note: There now seems to be a new feature added to the UI called: ‘Customize smart quotes’, where you can make any desired changes in the UI. :-)

Answer

To make memoQ automatically type curly (‘…’, “…”) apostrophes and quotes (when you type straight ones on your keyboard), you (may) need to edit the smart quotes settings file ‘SmartQuotes.xml’. Mine is at

C:\Users\mbeijer\AppData\Roaming\MemoQ\AutoCorrect

Note that the ‘AppData’ folder may be hidden in your file manager.

Make sure to first make a backup copy of the original file in case you make a mistake.

Open the file with a text editor. Search for the language code you need and change the standard quotes, which will then be used automatically in memoQ if you tick ‘Replace straight quotes with smart quotes’ under

Translation > Translation settings > Auto correct

For example, I changed my settings for Dutch like this:
